A graduate from the “I.L. Caragiale” National University of Theatre and Film in Bucharest, he specialized in choreography, and also holds a master degree in European Administrative Policies from the “Vasile Goldiș” University in Arad, Ovidiu Dragoman is the manager of the Sibiu House of Culture since 1997, a position which he used to coordinate an abounding number of cultural projects and programmes. He acted as a ballet dancer of the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad, as well as in the Slovene National Theatre in Ljubljana. In 2008 he founded the corps de ballet of the Sibiu House of Culture, also known to the audience as the Sibiu Ballet Theatre even back then. Under his administration, SBT has recorded several accomplishments as first dance company in Romania with an international corps de ballet, the only ballet theatre in Romania to stage a choreography inspired by the works of Eugen Ionesco, the first Romanian dance company to make a show inspired by the novel “I’m a Communist Biddy!”, written by Dan Lungu. SBT enriches its repertoire on a yearly basis with the most important titles in the classical repertoire, as well as with neoclassical or contemporary works.
“Sibiu has always been a trend-setter. In 2008, when the Sibiu Ballet Theatre started operating, back then with only ten ballet dancers, most of them foreigners, there were a few who believed in our success and most of all in the continuity of this “project” that seemed so bold. Today, no less than 40 ballet dancers perform on the SBT stage, most of them foreigners, and our model has been adopted by almost all ballet theatres in the country. But the most important aspect is that today we enjoy the consideration and the trust of an audience that is larger and larger and this is one of the greatest satisfactions.”
